There are currently 33 Sainik Schools situated across India, with each state hosting one of these institutions. These schools, administered by the Sainik School Society under the Ministry of Defence, operate as fully residential premier establishments. Established in the 1960s under the leadership of the late Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of the nation, they function as English Medium Schools affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Admission to Sainik Schools is contingent upon the successful completion of an All India Written Exam and a medical test.

These schools have demonstrated excellence in their primary role as feeder institutions to the Armed Forces, contributing to the commissioning of over 14,000 officers. A substantial number of alumni have pursued successful careers as officers in the Armed Forces, while many others have distinguished themselves as IAS and IPS officers, as well as professionals in the fields of medicine and engineering, serving both within the country and overseas.

Admission

The Sainik School Admission entrance examination is conducted annually to facilitate admissions to Class 6 and Class 9 across its 31 schools. Following successful completion of the written examination, candidates who qualify will be summoned by the examining committee for a medical test.

Eligibility

If an applicant’s age falls within the range of 10th to 12th years as of March 31, 2024, they are eligible to complete the AISSEE admission form for Class 6 in the year 2024. Conversely, candidates aged between 13 to 15 years as of March 31, 2024, are qualified to apply for admission to Class 9.

Admission to Sainik School is contingent upon attaining a minimum of 25% marks in each subject of the examination and securing an aggregate of 40% marks across all subjects in AISSEE 2024.

Entrance Examination

Admission to Sainik Schools is determined by the candidates performance in the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE). A comprehensive understanding of the entrance exam syllabus is essential for successful navigation. The subjects for Class 9 entrance includes- Mathematics, English, Science and Social Science.
